I am delighted to welcome the Festival of Andros, which is held for the fifth time this year. The Festival has become an institution that has made our island a cultural hub.
The love for the arts and especially the love for Andros have been the stepping stones for the creation of the Festival. Both the residents of Andros and the people who visit the island return this love with their strong presence at the open-air theatre of Andros.
The Festival was born at a difficult time, in the summer of 2015, and it has been embraced by the people of Andros, which fills us with pride, joy and responsibility.
The Festival owes its success to its Art Director, Mr Pantelis Voulgaris, who has been responsible for its exceptional programme since the first year it took place.
We, the municipality of Andros, continue focusing our effort on the preservation of our cultural heritage and support the Festival and every action and undertaking that promote culture and the arts.
Every year, the programme of the Festival of Andros consists of brilliant performances, concerts, music and dance events, as well as visual events. The Festival offers spectacles of high aesthetic quality, entertains and activates the senses.
I would like to warmly thank our compatriot, Mr Alkiviades Tattos, who got inspired to create the Festival, and Mr Pantelis Voulgaris, the Art Director of the Festival, for their support and contribution to the Festival of Andros.
We expect that, like every year, the open-air theatre of Andros will be filled with people from all over the world, who will enjoy a unique, unforgettable experience, and I am certain that the 5th Festival of Andros will be an even greater success than the previous ones.
